9-11 Still Remembered
Eight years to the day of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center buildings in New York City still remains an emotional day for most everyone. It's extremely hard to believe that eight years have already passed since the tragic deaths of innocent men, women, and children, which seems like just yesterday when it happened.
Hearing the news in the 7th grade, I didn't fully understand what was happening at the time, and brushed it to the side. Out of the corner of my eye as I entered my classroom for Geography, I saw a second plane fly into the second building, shooting flames instantly. I remembered just then one of my friends mother worked in the World Trade Center building, and my heart jumped, pounding deeply for fear that T.K.'s mother had been in the building at the moment.
T.K.'s mother had been walking three blocks down to get some coffee and doughnuts for her fellow colleagues when the first assault happened. She was blessed, not having to be in the building when it happened, as her floor was one of the top floors on the building and everyone who was at work in her sector, didn't survive.
It's a moment in time I, or you will never forget, just as our parents remember exactly where they were when the news of John F. Kennedy being assassinated broke. You'll never forget such a tragic loss, even though you may not have been tied to someone who was directly effected by the event.
Sept. 11 will always be remembered to those courageous people aboard each and every flight that was hijacked, for their tremendous patriotism. May your fight, courage, and will never be forgotten. You stood up for the rest of America in a time of crisis, forgoing your own freedom to keep others' intact. Those who were aboard those flights, I know you can't read this, but thank you for what you've done. You're the epitome of heroes, each one of you. May you be forever remembered.
